My name is Roz Jutras and I am a mom to 3 beautiful children. When I had my first daughter I really wanted to find an activity that would help us bond during my maternity leave. I came across sign language and knew that this was something I wanted to try it. I decided to become a baby sign language instructor to assist in teaching my daughter but also in my community. It was amazing to see how my daughter reacted to sign language. By the time she was 10 months old she was able to sign MILK and EAT. When she turned 1 years old, she had added about 5-8 signs to her signing vocabulary. Now that she is 5 years old, I cans see how sign language has benefited her, even at an older age. She has such a vast vocabulary and is already beginning word recognition and learning to read! I know it has something to do with the fact that she has been signed to for most of her life.
Signing with my other daughter was quite the same. She has SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) and we found that sign language has helped her express her needs and wants. She has some challenges that we are working through on a daily basis and signing with her has truly helped with you therapy. In addition, I recently started signing to my three month old baby boy in hopes that he will one day, communicate to our family very soon.
I started this blog because I wanted to share my experience and knowledge of sign language in the hopes of helping families improve their communication. Children always know what their needs are but often have times expressing it verbally. Sign language can open the door to family communication, reduce frustration, and much more! I hope you find interesting tips and techniques about sign language. It is also my hope that you will share it with your friends and family and help our site grow around the world!
